Tonka gets Lucky
We just wanted to give you an update on Tonka. Since he came home with us two weeks ago, he's gone through some changes. His name is now Lucky and he seems to have learned it very well.
At first he was scared to be left alone and would follow us around the house all the time. But since we both work at home, he's gotten used to the fact that we are always here and can get his belly rubbed during our breaks. Now he is more confident and chooses to play with his toys or take a nap while we work. At six o'clock he revs up for his play time. His favorite toy seems to be a squeaky ball that he fetches and brings back to be thrown over and over again or he'll throw it up by himself and chase it.
He is going to doggie school every Tuesday and he seems to be the star of the class. He already knows his name, how to sit, how to give his toy, and how to be quiet when asked. We are still working on him jumping up when he's excited, taking a walk without pulling and barking at the mail man (he is the little defender of the realm!).
He has a great smile as you can see in the picture and is one of the sweetest dogs we've ever met. He'd rather have his belly rubbed or ears scratched than anything else. We love him so much and want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for rescuing him. We feel he has earned his name... he is "Lucky" that you saved him and we feel "Lucky" that he is now part of our family!
Love,
April, Ken and Lucky

How
do new dogs and babies get along?
The baby and the dog should never be left alone together.
However, Bassets are the least likely to be dangerous. There are other breeds
such as the Labrador, the Golden Retriever, and the Collie that are unlikely
to snap at children.
Adopting an older dog that has had experience with children is much better
than adopting a puppy or a young dog without experience.
With puppies, teething is part of growing up - and sometimes they don't
know the strength of their own jaws. Rather than riskng it, go with an older
dog. That way, both parties can have fun & respect without getting into
any trouble!! |
